A search is underway for 20-year-old Himashri Boro, who went missing while travelling to Guwahati aboard the Kanyakumari–Dibrugarh Vivek Express from Visakhapatnam, with the Railway Protection Force and Assam Police assisting her family.
Boro was travelling on train number 22503 on Tuesday and was scheduled to reach Guwahati the following day. Her family lost contact with her during the journey and subsequently filed a missing person complaint, according to the Times of India report.
An RPF officer said railway authorities had begun searching for her after receiving information from the family. “According to the family, Himashri had gone to Andhra Pradesh for a dance competition, and she had gone missing while she was coming back. A search for her has begun already,” the officer said.
During the investigation, police found that Boro had spoken to a friend at 12.39 am on Tuesday. She reportedly told the friend that some boys were bullying and misbehaving with her before the call was disconnected. Her phone has remained unreachable since then, and her whereabouts were not known at the time of the report.
Boro’s family is from Kamrup district and has also approached Assam Police for assistance. The circumstances reported by her friend have brought the focus to passenger safety during long-distance train journeys, although the account of what happened after the call remains subject to investigation.
The Vivek Express connects Kanyakumari with Dibrugarh and passes through multiple states during its journey. In a case involving a missing passenger on a moving train, coordination between railway authorities, the RPF and state police is required to trace the passenger and establish where contact was lost.
The RPF and Assam Police had begun efforts to locate Boro, while her family continued seeking information about her whereabouts. Further details were expected as the search and investigation progressed.
