Traffic movement near New Ashok Nagar in east Delhi has been diverted until October 20 because of sewer repair work being carried out by the Delhi Jal Board near East End Apartments, affecting vehicles travelling between Noida and eastern Delhi.
The traffic arrangement applies to the route towards New Ashok Nagar, where both directions of traffic are currently moving through a single lane. The Delhi Traffic Police has advised motorists coming from Noida Sector 15 Roundabout and Sarai Chowk to avoid the affected stretch and use alternative routes until the repair work is completed.
According to the advisory, vehicles can travel towards Chilla Border or Noida Mor, then use the DND route before proceeding towards Mayur Vihar Phase III and the Kondli road to enter Delhi. Traffic personnel have asked drivers to follow diversion signs installed at the site and comply with instructions from officers managing movement on the road.
Vinay, the traffic inspector for the Kalyanpuri Circle, said the diversion was required because the sewer line repair was disrupting vehicle movement. He appealed to commuters to use alternative routes for the next 15 days, the period stated for the traffic restrictions.
The affected road is close to New Ashok Nagar Metro station and is also used by vehicles travelling between Noida, Mayur Vihar Phase III and Kondli. With traffic from both directions being accommodated on one lane, the stretch has become a congestion point, particularly during peak hours.
Traffic movement has also been affected by parked autos and e-rickshaws near the metro station, according to the report. Commuters and pedestrians have raised concerns that roadside encroachment and parking are adding to the pressure created by the sewer work. These conditions are reducing the available carriageway at a location that already carries traffic between Delhi and Noida.
The diversion is expected to remain in place while the Delhi Jal Board completes the sewer repair near East End Apartments. Traffic police have advised motorists to plan for longer journeys and use the designated alternatives until work on the affected route is finished.
