Delhi temporary electricity connections will be issued within 24 hours for Ramleela performances, Durga Puja, weddings and other public or festive events, Tata Power-DDL said in an official statement reported by Live Hindustan. Organisers can apply through customer care centres or the company’s online platform after completing the required formalities and depositing the demand amount.
According to the company, a meter will be provided and the temporary connection released after the application and demand note are submitted. Tata Power-DDL has also arranged sufficient meters at zonal offices to meet demand during the festive season.
Organisers can approach the customer care centre at the nearest division office to complete the application process. The online application facility is also available, allowing event organisers to submit their requests without visiting an office at the initial stage.
The electricity utility said its teams are conducting regular inspections at venues hosting major religious and public events. These checks cover electricity poles, streetlights, towers, wires, substations and feeders. The inspections are intended to identify electrical risks before events begin and support safer power supply arrangements at crowded venues.
Tata Power-DDL has advised organisers to take precautions while installing temporary wiring and to avoid loose connections. It has also recommended the use of an earth leakage circuit breaker, or ELCB, to reduce the risk of electric shocks and fires. The company’s spokesperson said the temporary connection facility would be available not only for Ramleela and Durga Puja events but also for weddings and other functions.
The announcement places responsibility for temporary electricity arrangements within a formal application and inspection process rather than leaving organisers to depend on informal extensions or unverified wiring. For public events, where lighting, sound systems, stalls and crowd movement often operate from temporary installations, the availability of a metered connection and pre-event checks is directly linked to venue safety.
Tata Power-DDL said its teams would remain on high alert during the festive season, with a focus on safe and uninterrupted electricity supply for consumers. The utility’s service area covers parts of north and north-west Delhi; the report does not specify whether the 24-hour facility applies across Delhi or only within the company’s licensed distribution area.
The Delhi government has separately begun preparations for Durga Puja and Chhath Puja. The report said organisers will receive permissions and no-objection certificates through a single-window system, which is scheduled to begin on October 15. Arrangements are also planned for electricity, water, sanitation, mobile toilets, traffic management and health services at puja pandals, Chhath ghats and cultural venues.
The government has said CCTV cameras and scanners will be installed at pandals and that artificial ponds will be created for idol immersion. At Chhath venues, officials have also stated that uninterrupted electricity supply will be arranged. These measures will be implemented alongside the temporary connection process announced by Tata Power-DDL.
