Nashik Municipal Corporation has received administrative approval of Rs32.8 crore to establish a third Integrated Command and Control Centre at the Nashik Rural Police headquarters in Adgaon, strengthening surveillance and emergency coordination for the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority has set March 2027 as the deadline for making the facility operational. The centre will support monitoring of pilgrim movement, crowd density, traffic flow, security arrangements and emergency situations during the religious congregation, for which authorities estimate that around 12 crore pilgrims may visit Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.
The proposed Nashik Kumbh command centre will be the city’s third such facility. The NMC already operates an ICCC at its Panchavati divisional office building, which is being upgraded for the Kumbh Mela and will be monitored by the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd. A second command centre is functioning at the Nashik city police commissionerate.
“The NTKMA has given an administrative approval of Rs32.8 crore to set up the command and control centre at the rural police headquarters at Adgaon. The NTKMA has set a deadline of March 2027 to make the proposed command centre operational ahead of the mega religious congregation,” NMC officials said.
The command-centre expansion is linked to a wider surveillance network being prepared for the Kumbh. Around 4,000 CCTV cameras are being installed across Nashik city, while another 1,000 cameras are planned for Trimbakeshwar. The feeds will be integrated through an optical fibre cable network being laid by the Smart City Corporation and routed to the command centres for round-the-clock monitoring.
The planned network is intended to give authorities a common operational view of crowd movement and traffic conditions across the two locations. It is also expected to support coordination during law-and-order incidents and emergencies, with the police, civic administration, health department, disaster management teams and other agencies involved in Kumbh operations.
The Adgaon facility was earlier proposed to be developed by the rural police administration. The Kumbh Mela Authority has now assigned the project to the NMC and sanctioned the funds required for its execution. This places the civic body at the centre of a surveillance and coordination system that will operate across municipal and rural police jurisdictions.
Officials said the integrated system would help improve traffic regulation, crowd control and response times, particularly on peak bathing days. Its effectiveness will depend on the timely completion of the building, the optical fibre network and the integration of feeds from the planned camera installations before the March 2027 operational deadline.
