Nashik’s civic authorities have been directed to accelerate road, bridge, sewage treatment and pothole-repair works after the monsoon, with the city preparing for the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Kumbh Mela minister Girish Mahajan issued the instructions during a review meeting with Nashik Municipal Corporation officials at the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority office on Friday.
The review covered infrastructure projects being executed by the civic body, including roads, bridges, water supply and drainage works. Mahajan instructed officials to use the post-monsoon dry-weather period to make up for delays caused by the rains while maintaining construction speed and quality.
Officials were asked to resolve administrative and technical bottlenecks affecting the long-pending Gharpure Ghat–Ramwadi bridge project. Once completed, the bridge is expected to improve connectivity and reduce traffic pressure in the area. The meeting also examined the Dwarka–Sinnar Phata corridor and other bypass routes being prepared to streamline regional traffic during the Kumbh preparations.
NMC officials said work was underway on 18 major roads across Nashik. Nearly 90% of utility-shifting work on these routes has been completed, clearing the way for road construction and surfacing activities. Asphalting and related works are scheduled to gain momentum from November.
Mahajan also directed the civic administration to repair potholes formed during the monsoon on both arterial and internal roads. He called for standardised and durable restoration rather than temporary repairs, and asked officials to inspect the roads and complete the work without delay.
The review included sewage treatment plant projects at Tapovan and Agartakli. Mahajan directed officials to speed up these works, which the administration has linked to improvements in the city’s drainage network and civic amenities. He also instructed officials to complete other pending civic works on priority.
NMC commissioner Manisha Khatri said the proposed parallel road to Gangapur Road would be prioritised and that tenders were expected to be floated within a month. The road works are being reviewed against the wider infrastructure requirements of Nashik and the operational demands expected during the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
Mayor Himgauri Adke, MLA Devyani Pharande, district collector Ayush Prasad, Kumbh Mela Authority commissioner Shekhar Singh and senior civic officials attended the meeting. Pharande urged the administration to complete road works quickly to reduce disruption for residents. The next stated milestones are the acceleration of construction after the monsoon, the November surfacing push and the proposed tendering of the Gangapur Road parallel route within a month.
