JNTUH Hostel Facilities Face Fresh Student Complaint Over Hygiene

JNTUH hostel facilities have come under criticism after the Students Protection Forum (SPF) of the University College of Engineering submitted a representation to the principal alleging poor maintenance, unsafe drinking water and inadequate basic services in the university’s boys’ and girls’ hostels.

According to the representation, drinking water filters were not functioning properly and the water was often dirty and unhygienic. The student forum also raised concerns about unclean corridors, poorly maintained washrooms, non-functional toilets and inadequate water supply.

The complaints extend to accommodation and study spaces. SPF alleged that some hostel rooms housed around 10 students, while study halls did not have enough chairs, tables or lighting. The forum also flagged concerns about the quality and hygiene of food served to students.

Citing sanitation and hygiene problems, SPF said students were facing health-related difficulties and considerable inconvenience. It urged the university to inspect all hostels immediately and take corrective measures.

The requested measures include providing clean drinking water, improving sanitation, restoring functional toilets, ensuring adequate water supply, maintaining hygienic food standards and addressing overcrowding in hostel rooms. The forum also sought suitable facilities in study halls, including sufficient furniture and lighting.

The representation places responsibility for addressing the complaints with the university administration, which will need to assess the condition of the hostels and determine the corrective steps required. The report does not include a response from the principal or details of any inspection or repair schedule announced by the university.
