Kolkata Metro Cuts Services on Three Lines for Gandhi Jayanti

Kolkata Metro will operate fewer trains on its Blue, Green and Yellow lines on Friday, October 2, for Gandhi Jayanti, although the first and last train timings will remain unchanged, according to The Statesman – Kolkata.

The Blue Line, which runs between Kavi Subhash and Dakshineswar, will operate 216 services on the holiday. The schedule comprises 108 up and 108 down services. The first trains from both Kavi Subhash and Dakshineswar will depart at 6:50 am, while the last services will leave at 10:30 pm.

On the Green Line, connecting Howrah Maidan with Salt Lake Sector V, Kolkata Metro will run 212 trains, including 106 services in each direction. The first trains from Howrah Maidan and Salt Lake Sector V will start at 7 am, and the last trains from both stations will depart at 10 pm.

The Yellow Line, which operates between Noapara and Jai Hind Airport, will run 110 services, comprising 55 up and 55 down trains. The first train from both Noapara and Jai Hind Airport will leave at 7 am, while the last service will depart at 9:40 pm.

Services on the Purple and Orange lines will operate as usual, according to the report. The holiday schedule therefore affects three of Kolkata’s operational metro corridors, while the other two lines will retain their regular service pattern.

The unchanged first and last train timings mean that the main alteration for passengers on the Blue, Green and Yellow lines will be the frequency and total number of services during the day. Commuters using these corridors on Gandhi Jayanti will need to account for the reduced number of trains while planning journeys, particularly when changing between lines or travelling during periods of concentrated demand.

The revised schedule covers the city’s principal east-west and north-south metro connections. The Blue Line links the southern and northern parts of the metropolitan network, the Green Line connects Howrah with Salt Lake, and the Yellow Line serves the airport corridor. The Purple and Orange lines will continue to run according to their usual schedules.

The holiday timetable applies on Friday, while the published information does not indicate any change to the regular first and last service timings on the affected lines. Kolkata Metro’s service pattern for Gandhi Jayanti will therefore combine reduced daytime operations on three corridors with unchanged operating hours at the beginning and end of the day.
