The Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor is set to receive a dedicated Delhi Police security network, with five proposed police stations planned around major terminals and multimodal transport hubs in the capital. The plan is being prepared through the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to strengthen passenger safety, law-and-order response and crime investigation along the corridor.
The proposed stations will be located at Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, Kashmere Gate, Mukarba Chowk and the Indira Gandhi International Airport area. The locations include major interchange points and strategic transport zones connected to the Namo Bharat network. NCRTC has nearly completed the outline for the stations, according to the report.
Security on the corridor will be divided into two operational layers. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will be responsible for station premises, checking points and platforms, following a model similar to security arrangements used in the metro and railway systems. The report said the CISF security system will use modern artificial-intelligence-enabled screening equipment.
Delhi Police will manage areas outside the stations, including parking zones, public-order duties and the registration and investigation of criminal cases. This division is intended to clarify responsibilities between the force handling controlled station spaces and the police agency responsible for surrounding public areas and investigations.
The five stations are also expected to form part of Delhi Police’s proposed multimodal transport security grid. Under the plan, Delhi Police, the Railway Protection Force and the CISF would be able to share information in real time during emergencies or security threats. The report said a security audit had recommended police stations at the identified locations.
The arrangements are being planned as the Namo Bharat system develops as an inter-city transport network linking Delhi with Meerut. The proposed policing framework is also being considered in relation to later phases towards Panipat and Alwar, according to the report. These extensions would expand the number of transport interfaces requiring coordination between city, railway and transit-security agencies.
The permanent administrative buildings will take time to construct. In the interim, NCRTC and Delhi Police have established temporary police booths and outposts close to stations. A police post near Gate 2 of Anand Vihar Namo Bharat station has already begun operating under the jurisdiction of the Patparganj Industrial Area police station.
The planned station network would give passengers a closer point of contact for emergencies and criminal complaints, rather than requiring them to travel to a distant police station. The next steps are the finalisation of the station layouts and the development of permanent facilities at the five proposed locations.
