The Delhi Government has launched 53 development projects worth ₹214.12 crore across unauthorised colonies in five Assembly constituencies, with the works expected to improve roads and drainage for about 1.75 lakh residents after completion.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta laid the foundation stone for the projects on Sunday as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, according to a release from the Chief Minister’s Office. The works will be carried out in Kirari, Bawana, Mundka, Narela and Nangloi Jat.
The package covers 1,062 roads and lanes in 27 unauthorised colonies. The planned works include the upgrade of around 89.82 km of road network and the development of 147.69 km of drainage network. The stated objective is to address recurring problems involving waterlogging, deteriorating roads and inadequate civic infrastructure in these settlements.
Ms. Gupta said the projects were intended to strengthen basic amenities in areas that had faced infrastructure problems for years. “Roads, drains, sewerage, and drainage are basic rights of every citizen. The government is ensuring that the benefits of development reach every lane and every area of Delhi,” she said, adding that the government aimed to find permanent solutions to pending civic problems.
Kirari will receive the largest share of the announced works, with 27 projects worth ₹105.51 crore spread across 14 unauthorised colonies. Bawana will have nine works valued at ₹38.83 crore, while five projects worth ₹22.05 crore are planned in Mundka. Narela will receive four works worth ₹14.48 crore, and eight projects worth ₹33.25 crore will be undertaken in Nangloi Jat.
The announcement places road access and drainage capacity at the centre of the infrastructure intervention. In colonies where narrow lanes and inadequate drainage affect daily movement, road and drain works are closely linked: poor surface conditions can worsen during heavy rainfall, while weak drainage can damage newly improved roads. The official statement, however, did not provide project-wise completion dates, implementation agencies or details of maintenance arrangements after construction.
The projects are being announced under the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, which is running from September 17 to October 17, 2026. The campaign was launched nationwide to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service. The Delhi Government has not provided a separate implementation timeline for the 53 projects in the information released about the foundation-stone ceremony.
The event was attended by MP Yogendra Chandolia and Cabinet Ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood and Ravindra Indraj Singh. The next milestones will be the execution of the road and drainage works across the identified colonies and the completion of the projects announced for the five Assembly constituencies.
