The Barapullah Phase 3 corridor will be inaugurated in Delhi on September 29, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah scheduled to attend an event that will also mark the launch of another road facility and the foundation stone laying for two additional infrastructure projects.
Delhi Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma said the foundation stones would be laid for the extension of the Modi Mill flyover to Kalkaji and a new parallel flyover at the Savitri Cinema Junction. The Mukarba Chowk underpass project, which has been completed, will also be inaugurated.
The extension of the Modi Mill flyover and the Savitri Cinema Junction project have received a combined approval of Rs 371 crore. The Delhi government has allocated Rs 150 crore for the two projects in the current financial year and has set a completion target of 24 to 30 months.
The Modi Mill-Kalkaji extension will be a 1.5-kilometre, six-lane structure. According to an official cited in the report, it will have nine-metre-wide carriageways on both sides, along with a median, crash barriers and railings. The project will cover important junctions and roads including Captain Gaur Marg, Maa Anandmayi Marg, Lotus Temple Road, Masjid Moth Road and the Nehru Place bus depot.
The planned infrastructure is intended to improve traffic movement between Modi Mill and Kalkaji and serve areas that include major residential, commercial and institutional destinations. The project details released so far concern the structure, road geometry and locations; the report does not provide a specific traffic diversion plan or construction-phase schedule.
At Savitri Cinema Junction, the proposed grade separator will be a 900-metre, one-way, three-lane facility aimed at reducing congestion in Greater Kailash-I, Greater Kailash-II and CR Park. It will include a 435-metre elevated road, two entry and exit ramps, dedicated bus bays and redesigned junctions.
The project scope also includes rebuilt footpaths, a cycle track, an improved drainage system intended to reduce waterlogging and upgraded street lighting. These features will form part of the road redesign around the junction rather than only the elevated structure.
The Mukarba Chowk project has been completed near Gate 3 of Haiderpur-Badli Mor Metro station. It includes three underpasses: two for vehicular movement and one for pedestrians and non-motorised vehicles, according to a government official cited in the report.
The two vehicular underpasses are each approximately 50 metres long, 9.6 metres wide and six metres high. They are intended to improve connectivity between Badli and Rohini. The inauguration on September 29 will therefore combine the opening of the completed Mukarba Chowk facilities with the launch and groundwork for projects in south Delhi.
