Welspun Enterprises’ material subsidiary, Welspun Michigan Engineers Limited (WMEL), has been awarded a significant contract by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for a critical Infrastructure project.
The project involves the rehabilitation of man-entry sewer lines across Mumbai’s suburbs, using advanced trenchless technology—a method aimed at reducing societal disruption while extending the lifespan of urban infrastructure. This ambitious project, valued at INR 159.75 crore (excluding GST), involves the rehabilitation of approximately 17 kilometres of sewer lines, with diameters ranging from 1000mm to 1800mm. The execution period for this project is set at 24 months, not including the monsoon season, ensuring that the work is carried out with minimal impact on the city’s routine operations.
This contract marks WMEL’s largest independent venture in the sewer rehabilitation segment, further establishing the company’s reputation for delivering advanced and sustainable infrastructure solutions. The utilisation of trenchless technology in this project is particularly noteworthy, as it allows for the renewal of aging sewer systems without the need for extensive excavation. This approach not only minimises the environmental and social impact typically associated with traditional construction methods but also enhances the durability and reusability of the infrastructure for the next 50 years.
