Hyderabad traffic restrictions will continue on Saturday along major Ganesh immersion routes, with police advising motorists to avoid Tank Bund, Necklace Road, NTR Marg, PV Statue and areas around Indira Gandhi Rotary unless travel is necessary.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said the restrictions were required because immersion processions involving the remaining Ganesh idols were still moving through the city. He urged motorists to postpone their journeys or use alternative routes, and advised citizens not to enter congested areas without a specific need.
The restrictions cover roads and junctions around some of Hyderabad’s busiest public spaces and waterfront routes. Tank Bund, Necklace Road and NTR Marg have been receiving large numbers of devotees and vehicles as families arrive to participate in the festival and accompany idols for immersion.
Sajjanar said the procession had remained peaceful and continued in a grand manner since Friday, with lakhs of devotees turning up at the major immersion locations. He said there had been no major untoward incident during the movement of processions in the city.
The heavy flow of people and vehicles, particularly during periods when families arrived in large numbers, slowed traffic and caused delays in the immersion of idols, according to the Commissioner. Police and traffic personnel were working continuously to manage the movement and facilitate the immersion of the remaining idols.
The advisory places the immediate responsibility on road users to plan journeys around the affected corridors. Motorists travelling towards central Hyderabad and routes adjoining Hussainsagar have been asked to follow traffic police instructions and avoid the listed roads wherever possible.
The restrictions also highlight the operational challenge of managing a large religious gathering across a dense urban road network. Roads such as Tank Bund, Necklace Road and NTR Marg serve both as festival routes and as important connectors for everyday movement, meaning processions can affect traffic beyond the immediate immersion points.
The Commissioner thanked citizens for cooperating with the police and asked them to continue following traffic advisories issued by the traffic police. Restrictions will remain in place as police and traffic personnel facilitate the immersion of the remaining idols.
