Union Home Minister has inaugurated a series of development projects worth approximately ₹1,000 crore. These initiatives are set to transform the city’s landscape, focusing on essential sectors such as sewage treatment, housing, and education. Shah’s visit underscored a dual agenda: enhancing urban amenities while galvanising public involvement in a nationwide tree plantation campaign.
During the event, He highlighted the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s ambitious plan to plant 30 lakh trees within the next 100 days. This large-scale initiative is aimed at improving air quality, supporting biodiversity, and combating climate change. He emphasised the crucial role trees play in safeguarding the environment and mitigating the impacts of urbanisation. “The commitment demonstrated by the AMC is commendable,” he remarked. “It reflects a significant effort towards environmental conservation. However, I urge the citizens of Ahmedabad to also contribute actively to this cause. It is imperative that each household plants a number of trees equivalent to their family size, whether in their residential areas, nearby vacant lands, or at their children’s schools.”
The newly inaugurated projects include state-of-the-art sewage treatment plants designed to enhance the city’s sanitation infrastructure, modern housing schemes aimed at providing better living conditions, and smart schools intended to revolutionise educational facilities in the region. These developments are expected to bolster Ahmedabad’s status as a progressive metropolitan centre and address various urban challenges. The minister’s call to action extends beyond governmental initiatives, appealing directly to residents to play their part in the city’s green transformation. This dual approach of infrastructural advancement coupled with grassroots environmental stewardship is anticipated to yield substantial benefits for Ahmedabad’s urban ecosystem and its inhabitants.
