A 10 MW solar power project commissioned for Aster Medcity in Kerala is expected to meet more than 90% of the hospital’s total energy requirement through renewable power, according to Oyster Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd and its partner Aster DM Quality Care.
The ground-mounted project is located at Ambalathara and adjoining villages in Hosdurg Taluka, Kasargod district. It is expected to generate about 17.7 million units of clean electricity annually and supply the power to Aster Medcity on a captive basis.
The project uses high-efficiency bifacial solar modules designed for Kerala’s tropical climate. Power is supplied through Oyster Green Hybrid Two Pvt Ltd, in which Aster Group holds a 26% equity stake. Aster DM Quality Care has invested Rs 3.87 crore in the project.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to offset approximately 23,138 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, the company said in an official release. The project is Oyster Renewable’s second-largest solar installation for a healthcare institution, according to the company.
The scale of the installation is linked to the continuous electricity demand of a hospital, which operates around the clock and requires power for clinical equipment, ventilation, lighting, cooling and other essential services. The company said the project was designed to provide reliable and cost-efficient clean power for healthcare facilities.
Mumbai-based Oyster Renewable operates as an independent power producer focused on renewable energy solutions for commercial and industrial consumers. It develops, invests in and operates renewable energy projects, with a focus on hybrid solar-wind systems intended to provide more consistent power supply and reduce carbon emissions.
Oyster Renewable Managing Director and CEO Siddharth Bhatia said the project had been designed to support the round-the-clock energy requirements of healthcare facilities. The company did not provide a commissioning date for full operations beyond stating that the emissions reduction estimate applies once the project is fully operational.
