Energy efficiency technology could help Telangana’s micro, small and medium enterprises reduce operating costs, improve productivity and cut greenhouse-gas emissions, experts said at the 25th CII Energy Efficiency Summit 2026 in Hyderabad on Friday.
The summit called for stronger cooperation between governments, industries and institutions to accelerate the adoption of cleaner technologies and improve energy efficiency across the country. Participants also urged an integrated response to the economic and environmental pressures created by climate change.
Experts cited rising temperatures, heatwaves, floods in some regions and severe droughts in others as growing pressures on economies and natural resources. They said these conditions made energy efficiency and climate resilience increasingly important for industrial activity and resource management.
Discussions at the summit focused on the role of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in working with state governments and industries to promote energy-efficient technologies, particularly among MSMEs. EESL has partnered with Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to encourage sustainable manufacturing practices.
Sectors including textiles, printing, pharmaceuticals and granite processing were identified as having significant potential for energy savings. According to the experts, adopting more efficient technologies in these industries could lower operating expenses, strengthen competitiveness and create jobs while reducing emissions.
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency, under the Ministry of Power, is implementing its Assistance in Deploying Energy Efficient Technologies in Industries and Establishments programme to support the adoption of energy-efficient technologies across the MSME sector. The programme was discussed as part of the wider institutional effort to improve industrial energy performance.
EESL, which has been involved in national initiatives such as the LED Street Lighting Programme and Ujala, has identified Telangana and the Hyderabad metropolitan region as important destinations for facilitating the adoption of globally proven technologies among MSMEs. Experts said Telangana’s industrial sector could benefit significantly from cleaner and more efficient technologies, given the state’s more than 2.6 million MSME units.
Bureau of Energy Efficiency director general KC Panigrahy, BEE secretary Milind Deore, EESL head-finance Aravind Talan and representatives of the Confederation of Indian Industry participated in the summit. The discussions centred on expanding cooperation between public institutions and industry to support the adoption of energy-efficient technologies.
