Beed has received its first daily direct railway connection to Pune, with Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar flagging off an inaugural special train on Thursday after completion of the Ahmednagar–Beed railway route. The service will subsequently operate as train numbers 11433/11434 Pune–Beed–Pune Daily Express, creating a regular rail link between Beed, Pune and the wider Marathwada and western Maharashtra regions.
The new service is expected to support daily and periodic travel for students, employees, businesses, patients, traders and religious visitors. Until now, passengers from Beed have depended largely on Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation buses and private buses for travel towards Pune. The railway connection is also expected to offer an alternative for passengers travelling onward from Pune towards Mumbai, although the service itself is between Pune and Beed.
The road distance between Pune and Beed is about 245 km, and the journey generally takes around seven hours, according to the report by Loksatta. State transport bus fares begin at approximately Rs 450, depending on the type of bus, while private bus fares are reported to range from Rs 600 to Rs 1,200. The railway route is longer at around 320 km, but is expected to provide a lower-cost option for many passengers.
The reported expected fare for the railway service is about Rs 140 for the general category and between Rs 150 and Rs 200 for second seating. Sleeper-class fares are expected to be around Rs 230, while AC three-tier fares are expected to range from Rs 600 to Rs 800. These figures are reported estimates and may vary according to the final railway fare structure and ticket availability.
The line’s significance extends beyond the journey between two cities. Pune is a major centre for higher education, employment, healthcare, industry and trade, while Beed is one of the districts in Marathwada that has historically had limited rail access. A daily service can make scheduled travel more practical for people who currently need to plan around bus availability, longer road journeys and higher private transport costs.
The railway connection also gives Beed passengers access to Pune’s wider transport and service network. For residents travelling to Mumbai, Pune can function as an interchange point, potentially making the route more convenient than completing the entire journey by road. The extent of this benefit will depend on the operating timetable, connections, seat availability and the service’s ability to maintain daily operations.
The inaugural special train follows the completion of work on the Ahmednagar–Beed new railway route. The service is now expected to transition into regular operations under train numbers 11433 and 11434, marking the next operational milestone for the new connection.
