DUSU Election 2026 voting began across Delhi University on Friday, with 1,51,842 students set to choose representatives for four central posts amid heightened security arrangements across the North Campus and 52 colleges and polling centres.
The Delhi University Students’ Union election follows an intense campaign involving allegations, counter-allegations and activities by several student organisations. Voting is being conducted for the posts of president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary, with 20 candidates contesting the four positions.
Delhi Police has divided the entire North Campus into five zones and 23 sectors for security and crowd management. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Pukhraj K Gupta said a deputy commissioner of police-level officer would oversee each zone, while an inspector-level officer would be responsible for each sector.
Police have deployed pickets and barricades at college gates and other key checkpoints to restrict unauthorised entry. According to Gupta, the campus has not been closed to vehicles or people, and students will be able to enter, cast their votes and leave without unnecessary obstruction. The arrangements are intended to maintain security while allowing normal movement during polling.
A total of 830 ballot units and 281 control units are being used for the election. Students attending morning-shift classes can vote from 8:30 am to 1 pm, while voting for evening-shift students is scheduled from 3 pm to 7:30 pm. Identity checks are being conducted at polling centres, and students are required to carry their college identity cards.
The administration has also established 12 control rooms to monitor polling centres and respond to technical problems or complaints. Teams are expected to be sent to individual centres if a technical issue or other disruption is reported. The university administration has appealed to students to vote during their designated time and follow the election code of conduct.
The contest includes panels fielded by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the National Students’ Union of India, the AISA-SFI alliance and ASAP, among other student groups. ABVP candidates include Yash Dabas for president, Ishu Maurya for vice-president, Riya Chhabri for secretary and Lakshyaraj Singh for joint secretary. NSUI has nominated Vijay Shankar Meena, Veer Chatrath, Namrata Chaudhary and Gopal Chaudhary for the four posts respectively.
The AISA-SFI alliance candidates are Ananya Raturi for president, Akshat Shikhar for vice-president, Stanzin Deskyong for secretary and B Parijat for joint secretary. The scale of the election requires the university and police to coordinate polling access, identity verification, equipment management and post-poll security across a dispersed network of colleges.
After polling ends, the election units and records will be secured under the prescribed procedure. Counting is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, when the results for president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary will be declared.
