Central Railway will suspend suburban train services between Palasdari and Khopoli for three hours on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights over the next two months, beginning in the early hours of September 19. The overnight traffic and power block is being carried out for railway infrastructure work and will alter late-night and early-morning services on the Karjat–Khopoli section.
According to information released by Central Railway and reported by Loksatta, the block will be implemented from 1.30 am to 4.30 am on the three specified nights each week. No suburban service will be available between Khopoli and Karjat during this period.
The last Mumbai local train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Khopoli before the block will depart at 10.57 pm. The 11.18 pm Khopoli-bound local scheduled to leave CSMT on Wednesday nights will operate only up to Karjat, according to the revised operating arrangements reported by the railway.
On the Khopoli side, the 12.30 am local to Karjat has been cancelled during the block period. The last Karjat-bound local from Khopoli before the overnight work will leave at 11.20 pm. These changes mean that passengers travelling beyond Karjat will need to complete their journey before the block begins or use services available after the work window ends.
Services will resume in the early morning after the block. The first Karjat–Khopoli local after the work is scheduled to depart at 5.43 am, while the first Khopoli–CSMT local will leave Khopoli at 4.50 am. The gap between the end of the block and these first services reflects the time required for railway operations to resume after the infrastructure work.
The affected route links the suburban rail network to Khopoli through the Karjat section and is used by passengers travelling between Mumbai, the suburban areas beyond Karjat and the industrial town of Khopoli. The revised timetable is particularly relevant to late-shift workers, passengers making overnight connections and residents dependent on the first morning trains.
Central Railway has described the work as a special night block involving both traffic and power restrictions. The arrangement is scheduled to continue for two months, with the specific cancellations and altered services applying on the designated nights. Passengers using the Karjat–Khopoli corridor will need to check the operating timetable before travelling during the block period.
