The Delhi Traffic Police has launched a Mobile Traffic Unit in Zone 1 to increase enforcement visibility, respond more quickly to congestion and take immediate action against violations on major roads and intersections.
The unit was flagged off in the northern, central and eastern ranges by Vijyanta Goyal Arya, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Zone 1, in the presence of the range deputy commissioners. The initiative is intended to strengthen the traffic police’s presence on the road while maintaining smoother movement for vehicles and improving compliance with traffic rules.
According to the traffic police, Mobile Traffic Unit teams will continuously patrol their designated areas and move to different locations based on operational requirements. During peak hours, the teams will be deployed on routes carrying heavy traffic and at major intersections where congestion is more likely to develop.
The unit will also respond to traffic disruptions and work to clear obstructions at the spot so that vehicle movement can resume quickly. The police said the mobile deployment model is designed to allow teams to reach affected locations without waiting for a static deployment to be repositioned.
Enforcement against violations is another key responsibility of the unit. The teams will monitor conduct that affects road safety and the smooth flow of traffic, including vehicles parked improperly. Drivers found violating other traffic regulations will also face action under the applicable rules.
The regular movement of the units is expected to improve traffic police visibility on important roads and at sensitive locations. The department said this visibility would help it respond faster to traffic-related problems and address issues directly at the location where they occur.
The initiative brings mobility, visibility and enforcement into a single operational unit. For road users, its immediate role will be most visible during peak traffic periods, when police teams are expected to intervene at congested junctions, remove obstructions and act against violations affecting road movement.
The Delhi Traffic Police said the focus would remain on resolving problems at the spot, strengthening traffic management and maintaining discipline on the roads. The units have been deployed across the northern, central and eastern ranges of Zone 1, with their field operations linked to traffic conditions and local requirements.
