Ganeshotsav security has been strengthened at Mumbai’s Chinchpokli and Currey Road railway stations, with 219 Railway Protection Force personnel, 55 ticket-checking staff and additional police resources deployed to manage crowds heading to major Ganesh mandals and long-distance trains.
The arrangements have been introduced in view of the expected surge of devotees travelling to Konkan and visiting Lalbaugcha Raja and Chinchpokli’s Chintamani during the festival. Devotees visiting the two prominent mandals commonly use Chinchpokli and Currey Road stations, making both locations key points for crowd control and passenger movement.
According to a report by Loksatta – Mumbai, additional RPF personnel, ticket-checking staff and dog squads have been positioned at major railway stations, with particular attention being given to Chinchpokli and Currey Road. The security plan is being implemented through coordination among the RPF, the Government Railway Police and local police.
The wider deployment includes 450 additional home guards alongside the regular force of 3,500 police personnel. A separate group of about 250 officers, personnel and home guards has also been assigned to manage special trains and crowd-control duties during the festival period.
At Chinchpokli and Currey Road, the 219 RPF personnel and 55 ticket-checking staff have been assigned two linked responsibilities: taking action against passengers travelling without tickets and helping regulate the movement of large crowds. The deployment reflects the operational pressure created when festival visitors, suburban passengers and long-distance travellers use the same railway network during a high-demand period.
The security arrangements are focused on preventing overcrowding and maintaining order at station entrances, platforms and passenger movement areas. The deployment of dog squads adds another layer to the security plan, while coordination between railway and local police is intended to support crowd management across the stations and their surrounding access points.
The arrangements will remain part of the special railway security and crowd-management operation for Ganeshotsav, alongside staffing for special trains and passenger safety duties.
