Families of two men killed in separate road crashes and survivors of a bus accident have been awarded a total of Rs 81.50 lakh in compensation at a National Lok Adalat held at the Sector 12 court complex in Faridabad on Saturday, according to a report by Navbharat Times.
The orders were passed in three motor accident cases by the court of Additional Sessions Judge K.P. Singh. The insurance company was directed to pay the compensation to the families of the deceased and to injured passengers involved in the cases.
In the first case, the court awarded Rs 35.75 lakh to the family of Satish Kumar, 29, a resident of Bhud Colony in Sector 29. Kumar, who worked at the Industrial Model Township, was returning by motorcycle from Dabua Colony at about 4.30 pm on August 16, 2025, when a truck ran over him near Chungi Number 17, the report said.
The compensation will go to Kumar’s wife, two young children and parents. The order is among the larger awards in the three cases and reflects the court’s assessment of the family’s loss following the death of the primary earning member.
In a second case, the court ordered payment of Rs 25 lakh to the family of Tekchand, 32, of Pelak village in Palwal district. Tekchand had travelled to Maujpur for work on March 3, 2025, and was returning home on a motorcycle via the Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal Expressway when a truck driver allegedly hit him near Maujpur. He died in the crash.
Tekchand’s dependants included his wife, two sons aged one-and-a-half years and six months, and his parents. The court considered the ages of the children, the family’s circumstances and the dependants’ relationship with the deceased while ordering the insurance company to pay the amount.
The third case involved a bus crash on the Yamuna Expressway while a group of residents was returning from the Kumbh in Prayagraj. Mahendra, a resident of Gharora in the Tigaon area, died in the accident on February 7, 2025. His wife, Darshana Devi, was among the passengers and was injured along with other elderly travellers.
The court awarded Darshana Devi Rs 9.50 lakh for her husband’s death. The injured passengers received separate amounts: Rs 1.50 lakh each for Satvir and Jugal Kishore, Rs 2.50 lakh for Jagvir, Rs 2 lakh for Ram Kishan and Rs 3.75 lakh for Meenu. The case involved seven affected passengers in all.
Together, the three orders cover compensation for deaths, loss of family income and injuries sustained in road crashes. National Lok Adalats are designed to settle eligible disputes through a conciliatory process, including motor accident claims, and can provide claimants with a route to resolution without prolonged litigation. The report did not provide the names of the insurance companies or the payment deadlines set in the orders.
The compensation directions were issued during the National Lok Adalat proceedings at the Sector 12 court complex. The insurer is required to comply with the respective orders, with the amounts distributed among the identified dependants and injured claimants.
