Mumbai Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 celebrations have changed the operating schedules of public institutions, financial markets and transport services on Monday, September 14, with Maha Mumbai Metro extending services on four lines until 12:30am to support festival travel. Schools, colleges, banks, courts and the stock markets are closed, while hospitals, suburban trains, BEST buses and essential services remain operational.
Maha Mumbai Metro will run extended services on Lines 2A, 7, 9 and 2B from September 14 to 25. The last trains will depart at 12:30am instead of the usual 11pm. On Line 2A, the extended last departures will operate from Andheri West and Dahisar East. On Lines 7 and 9, the relevant stations are Gundavali and Kashigaon, while services on Line 2B will run later from Maharashtra Nagar-Mandale and Chembur.
The metro network will also add between 10 and 15 trips every day during the extended operating period. The changes are intended to support travel during Ganeshotsav, when movement increases around major celebration areas and public events across Mumbai.
Mumbai’s suburban local trains and BEST buses will continue to operate on the holiday. However, passengers have been advised to expect heavier crowds and possible changes in traffic movement near prominent Ganpati celebration areas. The report does not specify any separate timetable changes for suburban trains or BEST buses.
Hospitals and emergency medical services will remain functional across the city. Emergency departments, ambulance services and critical-care units will continue as usual. Patients with scheduled appointments or non-emergency procedures have been advised to confirm arrangements directly with their hospitals because of the public holiday.
Courts across Mumbai will remain closed on September 14, meaning regular proceedings and administrative work will not take place. Schools and colleges across Maharashtra are also closed, allowing students, teachers and staff to participate in Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and related cultural programmes.
Banks in Mumbai, including public and private-sector branches, will remain closed. Digital banking, ATMs and online payment services will continue to be available, allowing routine transactions to proceed through non-branch channels.
The National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange have declared Monday a full trading holiday. The Multi Commodity Exchange will remain closed during its morning session from 9am to 5pm. Trading will resume at 5pm, with the evening session scheduled to continue until 11:30pm or, where applicable, up to 11:55pm. The extended metro schedule will remain in effect through September 25.
