Telangana Lok Adalat proceedings cleared 1,51,164 compoundable cases during a 10-day settlement drive, including 3,896 cybercrime cases that resulted in ₹42.29 crore being returned directly to fraud victims, officials said.
The drive was conducted as part of the third National Lok Adalat, with the Telangana Crime Investigation Department reviewing pending files, identifying eligible compoundable offences and serving notices to the parties before the hearings. The exercise involved the Telangana State Legal Services Authority, district judges, commissioners of police and district superintendents of police.
Shikha Goel, Director General of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, said officials had adopted a coordinated approach to clear cases through mutual compromise. “It was a highly calculated operational drive across the state. Post-facto court hearings, the CID scanned pending dockets, filtered eligible compoundable offences, and physically served notices to both parties ahead of schedule. By Sunday we completed the task,” she said.
The cases cleared through the CID-led exercise included 62,969 Motor Vehicle Act cases and 61,052 e-petty cases handled across traffic commissionerates. A further 21,843 first information reports involving compoundable offences were resolved through mutual compromise, while 1,404 disaster management cases were closed permanently.
The highest number of disposals among the locations listed was recorded in Hyderabad at 15,944 cases, followed by Khammam with 10,955, Gadwal with 8,499, Warangal with 8,404 and Malkajgiri with 8,109. The figures cover a mix of traffic, criminal and cybercrime matters rather than a single category of cases.
Statewide, the third National Lok Adalat reportedly resolved 4,20,626 cases and facilitated compensation of ₹266 crore for litigants. This included 2,78,335 pre-litigation matters and 1,40,565 pending cases. The settlements covered consumer disputes, labour matters, motor accident claims, land acquisition cases, civil disputes and criminal cases.
A total of 342 Lok Adalat benches were constituted across Telangana, including 340 in district courts, two at the Telangana High Court and two at the Hyderabad Debt Recovery Tribunals. Two special benches at the High Court settled 182 pending cases under the supervision of Justice K. Sujana and Justice Nandikonda Nandikonda Rao. More than ₹14.81 crore was awarded to motor accident victims, including a settlement in which an insurance company paid ₹5 crore to accident victims.
Goel said the recovery of cyber fraud money demonstrated the value of using the settlement process to provide direct financial relief to victims. The authorities’ next step is the continued processing and closure of eligible cases through the legal services and court mechanisms involved in the National Lok Adalat.
