A special court for Anti-Corruption Bureau cases in Karimnagar has sentenced former Kasipet tahsildar Alugunuri Roshaiah to two years of rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case linked to the processing of agricultural land records.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs.5,000 on Roshaiah. If he fails to pay the fine, he will undergo an additional three months of simple imprisonment, according to a report by Deccan Chronicle.
The court convicted the former revenue official under Sections 7 and 13(2), read with Section 13(1)(d), of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The case relates to an allegation that Roshaiah demanded and accepted Rs.10,000 from a complainant on January 9, 2013.
The alleged payment was sought in return for official favour in completing the mutation of agricultural land in the complainant’s name in revenue records and issuing a Pattadar Passbook. Mutation is the process of updating government land records following a change in ownership or title, while a Pattadar Passbook serves as a key record relating to agricultural landholding in Telangana.
Roshaiah was serving as tahsildar of Kasipet mandal in what is now Mancherial district when the alleged transaction took place. Tahsildars are responsible for important revenue administration functions, including the maintenance and updating of land records and the delivery of related certificates and documents.
The conviction follows the prosecution of the case before the Karimnagar special court for ACB matters. The sentence and fine were pronounced after the court found Roshaiah guilty of the offences recorded in the case.
