The MHADA Konkan Board will conduct a lottery for approximately 1,000 homes in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, with prices ranging from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 42 lakh, after beginning preparations to publish the scheme’s advertisement, according to a report by Loksatta-Mumbai .
The proposed lottery will include about 550 homes made available under the 20% inclusive housing scheme and another approximately 450 homes from the Konkan Board’s own housing scheme. The advertisement is expected to be published within a month, while the lottery is scheduled for November, the report said.
The Konkan Board’s chief officer, Dr Vishal Rathod, said the marketing department had started preparing the advertisement. He also confirmed that the lottery would cover the two categories together, taking the total number of homes to about 1,000.
The 20% inclusive housing scheme concerns homes in projects developed by private builders at affordable prices. According to the report, the upcoming lottery will be the last by the Konkan Board for homes made available through this scheme in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The board will not conduct further lotteries for homes under the scheme after the current group of units is processed.
The change follows a decision by the state government to withdraw the 20% scheme from MHADA and transfer it to municipal corporations. As a result, MHADA’s various regional boards can conduct lotteries only for homes that became available before August 12. The Konkan Board received approximately 550 such homes before that date and has decided to include them in the upcoming lottery.
The board had earlier announced a much larger lottery involving about 8,000 homes. That plan was expected to include approximately 5,500 homes under the 20% scheme. The proposed inventory was reduced after responsibility for the scheme was shifted from MHADA to municipal corporations.
The latest announcement follows a lottery conducted by the Mumbai Board for 2,640 homes. Applicants waiting for the Konkan Board’s scheme will now have to wait for the formal advertisement for details of eligibility, locations, category-wise availability and the application process. Those details were not included in the information available for this report.
The proposed price range places the homes in a segment aimed at applicants seeking lower-cost housing in the wider Mumbai region. However, the final number of units, project-wise distribution and other terms will be known only after the Konkan Board publishes its advertisement.
The board’s immediate next step is to complete and release the advertisement within the expected one-month period. The lottery for the combined inventory of approximately 1,000 homes is scheduled to be held in November.
