Ganeshotsav 2026 preparations in Mumbai came under review on Thursday as Mayor Ritu Tawde inspected key Ganesh idol immersion sites and directed Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials to strengthen safety, sanitation and crowd-management arrangements across the city.

The inspection took place on September 10, a few days before the festival is scheduled to begin. Tawde reviewed preparations for the arrival of Ganesh idols and their immersion at natural sites and artificial lakes, and said the arrangements made by the civic administration were satisfactory. She also directed officials to ensure that devotees and public Ganeshotsav mandals do not face inconvenience during the festival.
The mayor asked civic officials to keep immersion procession routes free of obstacles and to make more artificial lakes available for devotees. At natural immersion sites, she directed the administration to take steps to speed up the immersion process. Information boards are also to be installed at immersion locations to inform devotees that idol immersion and other civic facilities are being provided free of cost.
Tawde’s inspection tour began at the Gateway of India and covered several locations, including Swarajya Bhoomi, Girgaon Chowpatty, Lotus Jetty in Worli, the BMC Sports Hall near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Maidan in Dadar, Keluskar Marg North and Shiv Lake in Sion. The review included immersion infrastructure, civic amenities and security arrangements for devotees.
At Swarajya Bhoomi, the mayor directed officials to ensure that fertiliser is produced from Nirmalya, the floral and other religious waste collected after idol immersion. The instruction forms part of the civic administration’s arrangements for managing waste generated during the festival.
The mayor also asked the BMC to increase the number of mobile toilets, provide adequate drinking water and deploy enough lifeguards at immersion locations, citing the expected influx of devotees. The civic body is also reviewing arrangements intended to help devotees, public Ganeshotsav mandals and other Mumbaikars complete the immersion process without difficulty.
Separately, Tawde released the BMC’s Shri Ganeshotsav 2026 Information Booklet at the Mayor’s Hall in the civic headquarters. Prepared in connection with the eco-friendly Ganesh festival, the booklet contains information on natural and artificial immersion lakes, civic services and facilities, and the entry form for the Shri Ganesh Gaurav Puraskar competition. It also includes other information for public Ganeshotsav mandals.
The BMC’s preparations will continue at the listed immersion sites and artificial lakes ahead of the festival, with officials tasked with maintaining procession routes, civic facilities, safety arrangements and faster immersion operations.
