Maharashtra Power Restored to 117,000 After Heavy Rain

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) has successfully restored power to approximately 117,365 consumers impacted by the heavy rains that struck late Thursday night. The extensive downpours led to widespread power disruptions, affecting multiple regions including Ektanagar, Maval, Lonavla, and areas along Sinhagad Road.

The torrential rains resulted in substantial damage across 1,327 supply points. By Friday evening, MSEDCL had managed to restore service to 1,296 of these points. Rajendra Pawar, Chief Engineer of the MSEDCL Pune Circle, detailed the restoration process, noting that 65 housing societies in Ektanagar were severely affected. Nineteen transformers in this locality were submerged due to flooding. As of Friday evening, power had been restored to 14 of these transformers, with efforts ongoing to reestablish service to approximately 2,400 affected consumers.

In addition, teams were actively working to fix power issues impacting 23 transformers in the Maval, Bhorgiri, and Karla regions. Challenges such as muddy, slippery roads and soil subsidence have complicated repair efforts, with ongoing work aimed at restoring power to around 350 consumers in Rao and Kondhawe Dhawade.

The heavy rainfall also led to the shutdown of power supply to 119,865 consumers due to falling trees, branches, and system flooding. The restoration process commenced promptly, and by 1 am on Friday, power had been restored to 107,700 consumers through 1,182 transformers. The additional 9,665 consumers received restored power throughout the day, underscoring MSEDCL’s concerted efforts to mitigate the impact of the storm. MSEDCL’s swift and extensive response highlights its capacity to manage and rectify large-scale disruptions, aiming to restore normalcy and ensure reliability in power supply despite severe weather conditions. The ongoing repair efforts and the challenges faced underscore the critical importance of resilient infrastructure and rapid response mechanisms in disaster management
