Pune civic and police officials have jointly inspected major Ganeshotsav procession routes in the city’s central areas and directed departments to complete road repairs, restore excavated stretches and remove pedestrian obstructions before the festival begins.
The inspection was carried out under the chairmanship of Kasba legislator Hemant Rasane, with Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and other officials present. The review began at the Kasba Ganpati temple and covered key locations within the Kasba and Vishrambaug ward office jurisdictions.
Officials examined roads and public areas along Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road, the routes near Bhau Rangari Ganpati and Tambdi Jogeshwari, Kelkar Road, Pasodya Vitthal Temple, Sonya Maruti Temple, Someshwar Temple, Maharana Pratap Road, Kasturi Chowk, Jain Temple, Naik Hospital, Phadke Police Chowki, Seva Mitra Mandal, Mandai Ganpati, the Dagdusheth Ganpati display, Guruji Talim, Laxmi Road and Puram Chowk.
The inspection identified potholes, incomplete excavation work, drainage-related problems and obstructions on footpaths. Officials also reviewed traffic arrangements in areas expected to draw large crowds for processions and for visits to public displays and Ganesh mandals.
With only a short period remaining before Ganeshotsav, the concerned departments were instructed to complete the identified works before the celebrations start. The directions included restoring roads excavated by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company and other essential service agencies, while avoiding new road digging during the festival period wherever possible.
Officials were also told to complete old and delayed excavation projects urgently and level the affected roads. The civic roads department was directed not to treat repair work as complete solely on paper, but to conduct physical inspections and verify the quality of the repairs on site.
The joint review comes as Pune’s central areas prepare for substantial pedestrian and vehicular movement during the festival. The procession routes and adjoining locations include several prominent religious sites, public displays and roads that serve as important access points through the old city. Further implementation will depend on the concerned civic and essential-service departments completing the instructed works before Ganeshotsav begins.
