Mumbai’s seven water-supplying lakes held 96.44 per cent of their combined useful live storage on September 10, according to the latest report of the Hydraulic Engineer’s Department, with the reservoirs collectively containing 13,95,895 million litres (ML) of water.
Mumbai | September 10, 2026 — The combined useful live storage capacity of the seven reservoirs is 14,47,363 ML. The latest stock is marginally lower than the levels recorded on the same date in the previous two years. On September 10, 2025, the reservoirs held 14,18,057 ML, or 97.98 per cent, while the corresponding figure in 2024 was 14,20,578 ML, or 98.15 per cent.
Upper Vaitarna held 2,09,688 ML, equivalent to 92.35 per cent of its live storage, while Modak Sagar was at 96.75 per cent with 1,24,733 ML. Tansa stood at 98.57 per cent, holding 1,43,004 ML. Middle Vaitarna was at 95.85 per cent, with 1,85,507 ML.
Together, Upper Vaitarna, Tansa and Middle Vaitarna contained 6,62,933 ML, or 95.44 per cent of their combined useful storage capacity of 6,94,582 ML. The three reservoirs had held 98.31 per cent on the same date in 2025 and 98.71 per cent in 2024.
Bhatsa, Mumbai’s largest reservoir in the report, held 6,97,558 ML, or 97.28 per cent of capacity. Vihar was at 100 per cent with 27,698 ML, while Tulsi held 7,707 ML, or 95.78 per cent.
The report recorded rainfall across several reservoirs during the day, including 12 mm at Tansa, 8 mm at Tulsi, 6 mm at Vihar and 5 mm at Upper Vaitarna. Cumulative rainfall totals varied from 2,546 mm at Vihar to 3,795 mm at Upper Vaitarna.
