Raigad Police have announced traffic changes and alternative routes in Mangaon for the Ganeshotsav travel period, when large numbers of passengers from Mumbai, Thane and Palghar travel towards Konkan by road. The measures are intended to reduce congestion on the Mumbai-Goa Highway and around Mangaon, identified as a major bottleneck because of its narrow roads.
Under the revised arrangement, buses arriving from Mahad and Mumbai will not enter the old Mangaon bus stand. Instead, they will drop passengers at a bus stop near the main road before continuing their journey. The change is intended to prevent buses leaving the bus stand from becoming trapped in congestion.
Vehicles travelling towards Pune and Pali will be able to use the bypass near Nizampur Road. Traffic heading towards southern Konkan and Mahad will be diverted through the bypass route, according to the advisory reported by Loksatta.
Vehicles travelling towards Shrivardhan and Mhasla will be directed through Goregaon. The alternative route is part of the traffic management plan for the period when the highway experiences increased movement of private vehicles and buses travelling to Konkan for Ganeshotsav.
Private vehicles arriving from Mumbai will have three route options under the arrangement. These include the Indapur-Tala route, the Khawali Phata route and a route from the MRF bus stop through the one-way Sub-District Hospital road towards Morba Road.
Mangaon sees substantial traffic movement during the festival period, particularly from Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, as residents travel to Konkan. The narrow road network in the area has contributed to recurring congestion, prompting the police to identify diversions and restrict the movement of some buses through the old bus stand.
Travellers using these routes will need to follow local traffic instructions and check diversions at the time of their journey. The reported advisory does not specify an end date for the traffic changes.
