The Pune Municipal Corporation and city police have jointly inspected major Ganeshotsav procession routes in central Pune and directed civic departments to complete pending road, drainage and pedestrian-access works before the festival begins.
The inspection was conducted as preparations accelerated for Ganeshotsav, when large crowds are expected in central Pune to watch processions, visit Ganesh mandals and see public displays. PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar were present during the review, held under the chairmanship of MLA Hemant Rasane.
Officials began the inspection at Kasba Ganpati Temple and reviewed stretches covering Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road, Bhau Rangari Ganpati, Tambdi Jogeshwari, Kelkar Road, Pasodya Vithoba Temple, Sonya Maruti Temple, Someshwar Temple, Ranka Jewellers, Maharana Pratap Road, Kasturi Chowk, Jain Temple, Naik Hospital, Phadke Police Chowki, Seva Mitra Mandal, Mandai Ganpati, the Dagdusheth Ganpati display, Guruji Talim, Laxmi Road and Puram Chowk.
The joint team examined potholes, incomplete road excavations, drainage problems, obstructions on footpaths and traffic arrangements along the routes. Departments concerned were instructed to complete the identified works before the start of the festival. The review also covered roads whose condition was described as poor.
Civic and police officials directed departments and essential service agencies to coordinate the restoration of roads excavated for utility work. Mahavitaran and other agencies carrying out emergency or essential-service work were asked to plan the reinstatement of dug-up roads. Fresh road excavation during Ganeshotsav was to be avoided as far as possible, according to the directions issued during the inspection.
Officials also instructed agencies to complete old and delayed excavation works urgently and level the affected roads. The PMC roads department was told not to treat repairs as complete only on paper, but to conduct physical inspections and verify the quality of the work.
The inspection comes as central Pune prepares for increased pedestrian and vehicular movement around major religious sites, mandals, public displays and procession corridors. The authorities’ review focused on completing existing works and ensuring that road and footpath conditions are checked before the festival crowds arrive.
