The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences of 11 food establishments in Pune division after inspections found alleged violations of food-safety rules, while one hotel operating without a licence was shut down, according to a press release issued by the department on September 9, 2026.
The action followed a special inspection drive covering hotels, restaurants and dairies in the division. FDA teams conducted on-site inspections and reported deficiencies related to kitchen hygiene, pest control, employee medical certification, water quality and the use of expired raw materials.
The establishments facing licence suspension were located mainly in parts of Sangli district, including Vita, Walwa, Palus, Kadegaon and Atpadi. The FDA identified Kaka Vadapav, Shravgiri Sponge Dosa, Golden Tea, Jackson Dairy and Khada Vadapav Centre in Vita among the establishments against which action was taken.
The department also named Crystal Gourmet Private Limited at Vangi and Bambawade, Gurukrupa Chicken Plant at Kundal, Hotel Yashraj at Kamari, Hotel Sahyadri at Peth and Shri Ganesh Hotel at Atpadi. The supplied FDA statement did not specify the duration of the licence suspensions or the separate hotel that was closed for operating without a licence.
During the inspections, officials reported unsanitary kitchen conditions and the presence of insects and cockroaches. They also found that some establishments did not have medical examination certificates for workers, had failed to adequately address water quality and were using raw materials beyond their expiry dates.
The enforcement action places food businesses under scrutiny for compliance with licensing, hygiene and food-handling requirements. The FDA’s stated concerns cover both the condition of food-preparation spaces and documentation required for employees and establishments.
The department warned that businesses compromising consumer health would not be spared and directed all food operators to follow hygiene standards and legal requirements.
