Pune Municipal Corporation will suspend water supply across large parts of the city on Thursday, September 10, to carry out electrical, pumping and civil maintenance work at several water-treatment and pumping facilities. Water supply is expected to resume late and at lower pressure on Friday, September 11, according to the civic administration.
The shutdown will begin after work starts at midnight on Wednesday and continue through Thursday. The Pune Municipal Corporation’s water-supply department has scheduled maintenance at the Parvati water-treatment centre, Bhama Askhed jackwell, Warje water-treatment centre and other facilities. Water-supply department head Nandkishor Jagtap said the work was necessary and appealed to residents to cooperate.
The affected areas include neighbourhoods supplied by the Parvati HLR tank, SNDT water centre, Bhama Askhed water centre, Pancard Club GSR tank, Chandni Chowk tank, the Cantonment supply system and the Vadgaon water centre. The disruption will also affect some areas outside Pune city, including Alandi Municipal Council and adjoining localities.
Areas supplied from the Parvati HLR tank include Sahakarnagar, Padmavati, Bibwewadi, Mukundnagar, Maharshinagar, Shivtejnagar, Upper and Lower Indiranagar, Bibwewadi Gaothan, Gangadham, Chintamaninagar, Lake Town, Premnagar, Salisbury Park, Parvati Gaothan, Bhagyodaynagar, Shivnerinagar, Mithanagar, Kondhwa Khurd, Saibaba Nagar and Janata Vasahat.
The SNDT system will affect Gokhalenagar, Aundh, Bopodi, the Pune University area, Law College Road, part of Baner Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Bhandarkar Road, Prabhat Road, Paud Road, Mayur Colony, Karve Road and part of Warje. The Bhama Askhed system covers Kalas-Dhanori, Lohegaon, Tingre Nagar, Viman Nagar, Vadgaonsheri, Kalyani Nagar, Vishrantwadi, Phulenagar, Yerawada, Kharadi, Alandi and nearby areas.
The Pancard Club GSR tank system includes Baner, Balewadi, Baner Gaothan, Pancard Club Road, Pallod Farm, Medipoint Road and parts of Karvenagar and Warje. The Chandni Chowk tank system covers Pashan, Bavdhan, Bhusari Colony, Someshwarwadi, Sutarwadi, Sus Road, parts of Bhugaon Road, Gandhi Bhavan, Warje-Malwadi, Kakade City, Kothrud, Karvenagar, Hingne and Canal Road, along with areas supplied from the Chaturshringi tank, including Aundh, Bopodi, Khadki, Anand Park, Sanewadi, Sakalnagar, Chavannagar and part of the NDA Road.
The Cantonment supply system will affect Lullanagar, Kondhwa Gaothan, Kausarbag, NIBM, Salunke Vihar, Wanowrie, Azadnagar, Kedarinagar, Ganga Satellite Society and areas around Shinde Chhatri and Jagtap Chowk. The Vadgaon system includes Katraj, Ambegaon Road, Dhankawadi, Balajinagar, Sinhagad Road, Anandnagar, Vadgaon, Dhayari, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Kondhwa Budruk, Ambegaon Khurd, Yewalewadi and adjoining neighbourhoods.
The civic body has said that water supply on Friday morning may be delayed and delivered at reduced pressure. The maintenance schedule comes shortly before Ganeshotsav, when household and public preparations are under way across Pune. The municipal water-supply department has asked residents in the listed areas to plan for the interruption.
