A 25-year-old man died after a BMW motorcycle allegedly collided with the Maruti Swift Dzire he was travelling in near Chikkasannae Gate Signal on the outskirts of Devanahalli early Sunday, police said. The rider of the BMW allegedly abandoned the motorcycle and fled the scene.
The deceased was identified as Naveen Kumar, a resident of Narganahalli village in Devanahalli taluk. He was travelling home when the collision occurred, according to the police information cited in the report.
Naveen suffered severe injuries in the crash and was declared dead at the spot. Police received information that he had been brought dead at around 1.30 am.
The BMW rider was identified as Rakesh, 28, a resident of Peenya. Police said he left the motorcycle behind after the collision and fled. Efforts are under way to trace him and establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Investigators suspect that speeding and negligent riding may have contributed to the collision. The police have not yet established the final cause of the crash, and the circumstances leading to the rider’s departure from the scene remain part of the investigation.
The incident took place near Chikkasannae Gate Signal, on the outskirts of Devanahalli, an area connected to Bengaluru’s northern fringe and surrounding villages. The collision involved the Maruti Swift Dzire in which Naveen was travelling and the BMW RR motorcycle allegedly ridden by Rakesh.
A case is being registered at the Devanahalli traffic police station. Police efforts to locate the motorcycle rider and determine the sequence of events are continuing.
