The Bengaluru Central City Corporation has directed officials to put in place safety, traffic-management and lake-protection measures for Ganesh idol immersion at Halasuru Lake, with barricades, police coordination and waste-control work planned ahead of the ceremonies.
Corporation Commissioner Jagadish G instructed officials to install adequate barricades at the immersion site so that the process can be conducted safely and without inconvenience to the public, according to a report by Deccan Herald. Officials have also been asked to coordinate with the police department to maintain law and order, prevent overcrowding and regulate vehicle movement around the lake.
The traffic measures are intended to minimise congestion in the area during the immersion activity. The civic directions do not specify the number of vehicles or visitors expected, or provide details of any road diversions or temporary restrictions. Those arrangements are to be coordinated between civic and police officials.
The administration has also linked the immersion preparations to wider work at Halasuru Lake. Officials have been directed to develop a wetland at the lake to improve water quality and provide a suitable environment for aquatic life. The directions do not provide a completion date for the wetland or specify the nature and extent of the proposed intervention.
Waste entering the lake through the stormwater network is another focus of the instructions. Officials have been asked to clear debris and clean the stormwater drain leading to Halasuru Lake. Mesh screens are also to be installed at rainwater entry points to prevent garbage, plastic and other waste from entering the water body.
The corporation has further directed officials to complete ongoing development work at the lake, including the walkers’ pathway and installation of grills. These works are to be completed within the stipulated timeframe and the facilities are to be made available to the public, although the report does not state the deadline or provide details about the extent of the remaining construction.
The measures place public safety and lake maintenance within the same operational plan for the festival period. Barricades and police coordination are intended to manage people and vehicles at the immersion site, while drain cleaning, mesh screens and the proposed wetland are aimed at protecting the lake and limiting the entry of solid waste through stormwater channels.
The commissioner’s direction comes as city officials prepare for idol immersion at one of Bengaluru’s urban lakes. The instructions identify the immediate tasks for civic and police authorities but do not state whether additional immersion facilities will be provided elsewhere or how materials left after the ceremonies will be handled.
Officials are expected to complete the specified safety, drainage, access and public-facility works within the stipulated timeframe and make the completed facilities available to visitors.
