HYDERABAD: Infrastructure projects across Kodangal are facing tighter implementation timelines as the state government reviews progress on irrigation, roads, bridges and public institutions in the constituency. The review places emphasis on completing pending land acquisition, improving rural connectivity and coordinating large public projects, while also bringing water management and construction quality into the development agenda.
The Makthal-Narayanpet-Kodangal lift irrigation project emerged as a key focus during the review. Officials reported progress on the pump house and were asked to accelerate preparatory work for the second phase. The administration has also been directed to begin the tendering process for Phase II and provide details of the annual funding required to maintain the project’s pace. According to the project timelines presented during the review, Phase I is targeted for completion by December 2027, while Phase II is scheduled for October 2028. Completing outstanding land acquisition is another immediate requirement, as delays in securing project land can affect construction schedules and increase implementation uncertainty. Road connectivity was another major component of the review. Officials were instructed to improve access to settlements across the constituency, including thandas, while accelerating road, bridge and building projects. The focus on connecting smaller settlements is significant for access to schools, healthcare, markets and employment, particularly where poor road links can increase travel time and limit economic opportunities.
The review also addressed drainage and flood resilience. Plans for culverts and bridges across village streams are expected to account for local water flows rather than treating crossings simply as road infrastructure. Designing some structures with water-retention principles in mind could provide additional resilience during heavy rainfall, although their effectiveness will depend on site-specific engineering and maintenance. A substantial public-infrastructure cluster at Hakimpet was also inspected. It includes an integrated residential school, medical, nursing, physiotherapy and paramedical institutions, along with a 430-bed hospital and other facilities under construction. The administration stressed coordination between agencies and continuous monitoring of technical standards and construction quality. Water management has been incorporated into the institutional development plans. Officials were asked to establish water-harvesting wells and explore the use of collected rainwater for landscaping. Such measures can reduce dependence on treated water for non-potable uses while helping manage runoff across large institutional campuses.
The wider development push reflects Kodangal’s transition from isolated infrastructure projects towards a broader regional investment programme. Its success, however, will depend less on announcing deadlines than on land availability, funding continuity, inter-agency coordination and long-term maintenance. A further review meeting is scheduled in Kodangal to assess project progress. The next stage will provide a clearer indication of whether the revised timelines are translating into measurable construction and connectivity gains on the ground.
