Kolkata Public Transport Moves Towards Cleaner Fleet
West Bengal is preparing for a major expansion of its low-emission public transport network, with plans to induct 1,000 eco-friendly buses over the next year as part of a wider effort to modernise urban mobility. The initiative signals a significant shift towards cleaner transport systems, carrying implications for air quality, commuter comfort and the long-term resilience of cities across the state.
The immediate rollout has begun with the addition of 50 new buses, including compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, marking the first phase of a broader fleet renewal programme.
