Noida is advancing plans for a new elevated road corridor designed to strengthen regional connectivity before commercial operations begin at the upcoming international airport. The proposed Noida Airport Expressway is expected to create an alternative high-capacity route between the DND Flyway and the Yamuna Expressway, reducing pressure on the already congested Noida Expressway while supporting long-term mobility across the National Capital Region.
The proposed eight-lane elevated corridor is planned along the Yamuna Pushta Road and is expected to extend for nearly 36 kilometres before joining the Yamuna Expressway near Chi-IV in Greater Noida. Transport planners believe the project could play a significant role in distributing airport-bound traffic while improving access for commuters travelling between Delhi, Noida and the rapidly expanding Yamuna region. Officials involved in the planning process recently reviewed the alignment with highway authorities, paving the way for preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR). The project is expected to be implemented by the national highway agency once statutory approvals and technical studies are completed. The revised alignment is longer than the earlier proposal, reflecting attempts to address environmental and planning constraints around ecologically sensitive areas and existing public infrastructure.
Urban planners note that infrastructure projects in dense metropolitan regions increasingly require route optimisation to balance transport efficiency with environmental protection and land-use considerations. Once completed, the Noida Airport Expressway is expected to pass through several mixed-use sectors containing residential neighbourhoods, office clusters and institutional developments before connecting with the Yamuna Expressway. The corridor could improve accessibility not only for airport users but also for businesses, logistics operators and daily commuters who currently depend heavily on the Noida Expressway. The proposal comes at a time when the Yamuna Expressway region is witnessing accelerated urbanisation, with industrial parks, residential projects and logistics investments expanding alongside airport-related development. Improved road infrastructure is expected to support economic activity across the region, although mobility experts caution that road expansion should be integrated with public transport networks to avoid inducing additional private vehicle traffic over time.
Alongside the elevated corridor proposal, authorities have also reviewed repairs to the Yamuna Pushta Road, where deteriorated stretches have affected commuter safety and travel efficiency. Restoration work is expected to improve local connectivity while the larger expressway project progresses through its planning stages. Officials have indicated that the elevated corridor could be completed within approximately two years after construction begins, subject to approvals and execution timelines. As Noida prepares for the operational phase of its international airport, transport investments are increasingly being evaluated not only for their capacity to move vehicles but also for how they contribute to resilient, efficient and people-centred urban growth.
