Hyderabad’s mobile connectivity landscape has come under fresh scrutiny after a regulatory assessment found significant differences in network performance across telecom operators, highlighting the growing importance of reliable digital infrastructure in one of India’s fastest-expanding technology and business hubs. The latest Hyderabad Mobile Network Test, conducted by the national telecom regulator during May 2026, evaluated the quality of mobile services across key residential, commercial and transport corridors. The exercise measured critical service indicators including download and upload speeds, call connectivity, network availability and voice quality under real-world conditions. The assessment covered nearly 158 kilometres of city roads, multiple high-footfall public locations and pedestrian routes spanning major employment centres, healthcare facilities, transport hubs and emerging residential neighbourhoods. Such locations provide a representative picture of how users experience mobile services during everyday travel and work. Among the operators assessed, one private telecom provider recorded the highest average download speeds, while another delivered the strongest upload performance. The study also found that leading private operators maintained stable voice services with no call drops during the testing period. In contrast, the state-owned operator registered comparatively lower data speeds, more frequent signal weakness and several instances where network coverage was unavailable.
Industry analysts note that high download speeds alone are no longer sufficient indicators of network quality. Consistent coverage, reliable voice connectivity and stable upload performance have become equally important as cities adopt digital governance, remote working, cloud-based businesses and smart mobility applications. The Hyderabad Mobile Network Test also highlights the growing dependence of urban infrastructure on robust telecommunications. Public transport systems, emergency services, digital payments, healthcare platforms and connected workplaces increasingly rely on uninterrupted mobile connectivity. Gaps in coverage can therefore affect both economic activity and access to essential services. Urban technology experts suggest that Hyderabad’s rapid expansion into new residential layouts and commercial districts presents ongoing challenges for telecom infrastructure. As development spreads beyond established business corridors, operators must continue investing in towers, fibre backhaul and next-generation networks to maintain consistent service quality across the metropolitan region.
The regulator has clarified that the assessment reflects network performance only at the selected locations and during the period of testing rather than serving as a citywide ranking. The findings have been shared with telecom operators, with recommendations to address identified deficiencies and strengthen service delivery where required.
