AM Green and SJVN Collaborate for Major Renewable Energy Venture

HYDERABAD: In a significant development for India’s renewable energy sector, AM Green, a subsidiary of Greenko Group, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a subsidiary of state-run SJVN, to facilitate the long-term supply and sourcing of green energy.

Under the terms of the agreement, SGEL will provide 4.5 gigawatts (GW) of carbon-free energy to AM Green’s upcoming green ammonia facilities located in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. This energy will be generated through solar and wind power installations, with SGEL undertaking the project in three phases. The first phase aims to deliver 1.5 GW within the next two years.

The collaboration aims to integrate renewable energy sources with pumped hydro storage systems, ensuring a stable and sustainable supply of green energy for AM Green’s ambitious production goals. AM Green plans to produce 5 million tons per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia by 2030, which is equivalent to approximately 1 MTPA of green hydrogen.

This initiative aligns closely with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, aiming to contribute significantly to the country’s green hydrogen production targets. Additionally, AM Green’s production targets are poised to cover a substantial portion of Europe’s green hydrogen import goals by 2030, underscoring its role in the global clean energy transition.

SJVN highlighted that this partnership marks a pivotal step in its renewable energy expansion strategy, supporting its objectives to achieve 25 GW of installed capacity by 2030 and 50 GW by 2040. The company emphasized its commitment to leveraging solar and wind power to drive sustainable development and contribute to India’s energy security.

The agreement between AM Green and SJVN signifies a robust commitment to advancing India’s renewable energy infrastructure, fostering innovation in green technologies, and bolstering the nation’s position in the global green hydrogen market. As both entities move forward with their phased implementation plans, the collaboration is expected to set new benchmarks in the renewable energy sector and pave the way for future sustainable energy projects across the country.
