Hyderabad Faces Water Supply Halt on July 4

Residents of Hyderabad are advised to prepare for a temporary disruption in water supply on July 4, 2024, due to essential maintenance works at the 132KV Peddapur substation. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has announced that the water supply will be halted in various parts of the city for 24 hours starting at 7 a.m. on Thursday. The maintenance works at the 132KV substation include the replacement of the breaker, control and relay panel, and the overhauling of the isolator. These critical tasks necessitate an emergency power shutdown, which will impact water distribution across multiple localities.

Areas that will experience a complete disruption in water supply include Shaikpet, Borabanda, Moosapet, Nallagandla, Chandanagar, Huda Colony, Hafeezpet, Manikonda, Narsingh, Manchirevula, and Tellapur. Residents in these areas are advised to make necessary arrangements for their water needs in advance. In addition to these complete shutdowns, several other areas will face reduced water pressure. These areas include Bhojagutta, Banjara and Erragadda Reservoir, Jubilee Hills, Somajiguda, KPHB, and Hydernagar. The HMWSSB has urged residents in these localities to conserve water and use it judiciously during the maintenance period. This maintenance work is part of a broader effort by the HMWSSB to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the city’s water supply infrastructure. By undertaking these necessary upgrades and repairs, the board aims to prevent more significant disruptions and enhance the overall service quality for Hyderabad’s residents.

The HMWSSB has coordinated closely with the relevant power authorities to minimise the impact on residents and ensure that the maintenance work is completed within the stipulated timeframe. Officials have assured the public that every effort will be made to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible once the maintenance activities are concluded.Residents are encouraged to stay updated through official channels for any further announcements or changes to the schedule. The HMWSSB has also set up helpline numbers to assist with any queries or emergencies that may arise during the maintenance period. This proactive approach by the HMWSSB underscores the importance of maintaining essential urban infrastructure to support the growing demands of Hyderabad’s population. While the temporary inconvenience may pose challenges, the long-term benefits of a more robust and reliable water supply system are expected to far outweigh the short-term disruptions.
