Pune: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has intensified its crackdown on illegal hoardings in Hinjawadi following recent safety concerns. In a decisive move, PMRDA officials removed a significant 60X40 ft billboard from Wakad-Hinjawadi Road on Thursday, marking the second day of their enforcement drive.
This action comes in the wake of a tragic incident in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar, where a large hoarding collapse resulted in fatalities and extensive property damage. Prompted by safety imperatives, PMRDA officials underscored the necessity to regulate and eliminate hazardous hoardings erected without proper permissions.
An official from PMRDA highlighted, “Several hoarding owners have submitted applications seeking retroactive permission from the authority, which are currently under review. However, any hoardings found erected without prior authorization will face immediate demolition.”
Wednesday’s operation saw the removal of another sizable 40X40 ft hoarding at Gat No. 132/1 in Hinjawadi, demonstrating PMRDA’s proactive stance in addressing public safety concerns associated with unauthorized advertising structures.
The authority’s swift response aims to mitigate risks posed by structurally compromised hoardings, ensuring that urban environments like Hinjawadi remain safe for residents and commuters. PMRDA continues to monitor and enforce compliance with regulatory standards to prevent potential accidents and uphold civic safety standards in Pune’s expanding metropolitan region.
