Rail infrastructure planning for India’s first high-speed rail corridor is progressing in western India as authorities prepare to establish a dedicated rolling stock maintenance facility in Surat. The proposed Surat bullet train depot will support the operational readiness of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail line, ensuring that trains operating along the corridor can be maintained, inspected and serviced efficiently. Officials involved in the project say the facility is being planned by National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited, the public sector company responsible for implementing India’s high-speed rail programme. The proposed Surat bullet train depot will form part of the broader ecosystem required to support high-speed rail operations across the Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor. Authorities indicate that detailed planning for the Surat bullet train depot will focus on technical requirements such as track layout, maintenance equipment and operational logistics.
