Marelli Automotive Lighting Innovations Set For Auto China

Automotive technology supplier Marelli is preparing to unveil a new generation of vehicle lighting technologies at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, signalling how lighting systems are evolving into intelligent digital platforms within modern vehicles. The innovations will be showcased at Auto China 2026, one of the world’s largest auto industry events, scheduled to take place in Beijing from April 24 to May 3. The company’s display will centre on advanced lighting systems designed for the emerging era of software-defined vehicles, where digital architecture increasingly integrates lighting, sensors and communication functions into a unified system.

Among the flagship technologies is the Thin Corner-to-Corner Headlamp, an ultra-slim full-width lighting unit that integrates key front-lighting functions while enabling interactive features such as touch and voice-controlled commands. The module measures just 15 millimetres in height, allowing carmakers greater flexibility in front-end design while adding new user-interaction capabilities for drivers. The company will also present the Flat Lit Surface, a digital rear-lighting system combining OLED and surface-LED technologies. This design allows three-dimensional illuminated surfaces that can display dynamic lighting animations and vehicle signals such as brake lights, turn indicators and welcome or farewell sequences. According to engineers, the technology can also support vehicle-to-everything communication features in future connected mobility ecosystems. Another highlight is the h-Digi MicroLED headlamp platform, which uses high-resolution MicroLED projection modules to enhance adaptive driving beam systems and enable precise light distribution on the road. These modules are offered in configurations with up to 40,000 pixels, enabling advanced safety functions such as road projections, adaptive illumination and dynamic light patterns tailored to driving conditions.  The innovations reflect a broader transformation within the automotive sector. Lighting systems, once primarily functional components, are increasingly becoming a central element of vehicle identity and digital interaction. Automakers now use lighting to create distinctive brand signatures while also delivering safety features and external communication capabilities. The technologies are being introduced under the theme “Rooted in innovation, everywhere,” highlighting the supplier’s strategy of combining global engineering capabilities with local manufacturing and development hubs to support automakers across different markets. Industry analysts say such innovations are particularly relevant as Chinese automakers push rapid technological upgrades and digital features in new vehicle models. China has become a global testing ground for advanced automotive technologies, prompting suppliers to accelerate innovation cycles and develop locally tailored solutions.

For global suppliers like Marelli exhibitions such as Auto China 2026 serve as important platforms to demonstrate next-generation technologies to automakers developing electric and software-driven vehicles. As the automotive industry transitions toward connected, electrified and autonomous mobility, advanced lighting technologies are expected to play an increasingly important role—not only in vehicle safety but also in shaping the digital identity and user experience of next-generation cars.
