HYDERABAD: Following a spell of intense heat, Telangana experienced significant rainfall on Sunday night, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad to issue a yellow alert for the state until June 6. The forecast anticipates continued heavy rains until Tuesday.
The Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS) reported notable rainfall figures across various districts. Madikonda in Hanamkonda district recorded the highest rainfall with 85 mm by 9 pm. Siddipet followed with 77.8 mm, while Kondaparthy and Damera in Hanamkonda registered 74.8 mm and 66 mm of rainfall, respectively.
Despite the rainfall, daytime temperatures in the state remained perilously high, exceeding 42°C. TDPS data indicated that Jagtial and Nirmal districts experienced the peak temperatures of 45.5°C, with Adilabad and Mancherial closely following at 45.2°C and 45.1°C, respectively. Within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, Amberpet recorded a temperature of 43°C.
The IMD’s forecast predicts thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph at isolated locations on Monday. This weather pattern marks a significant shift from the preceding heatwave conditions, providing much-needed relief but also necessitating caution due to the potential for severe weather events.
The issuance of the yellow alert is a precautionary measure, urging residents to remain vigilant and prepared for the forecasted weather conditions. The heavy rainfall is expected to alleviate the extreme heat, contributing to a temporary reduction in temperatures. However, the potential for thunderstorms and gusty winds poses risks, particularly in terms of electrical infrastructure and loose objects that could be displaced by strong winds.
As the state navigates this period of fluctuating weather, authorities are likely to monitor conditions closely and provide updates to ensure public safety. The transition from extreme heat to significant rainfall underscores the dynamic and unpredictable nature of the region’s climate, highlighting the importance of adaptive measures in weather preparedness.
In conclusion, Telangana’s weather outlook for the coming days is characterised by substantial rainfall and cooler temperatures following a period of severe heat. The IMD’s yellow alert serves as a reminder of the need for caution and readiness in the face of potential thunderstorms and gusty winds. Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the anticipated weather conditions.
