200–300 Hectares to Be Acquired for Ganga Expressway Industrial Hub

The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to expand an industrial corridor along the Ganga Expressway in Sambhal district, with plans to acquire 200–300 hectares of additional land in the project’s second phase to attract new investment and create employment opportunities.

The expansion is being coordinated by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), which has proposed acquiring land near the existing industrial corridor site developed during the first phase of the project. Officials have already informed the district administration about the plan to initiate land acquisition procedures.

According to project details, the proposed land acquisition will cover villages including Kharsapa, Bhamauri Patti and Saundhan Mohammadpur in Sambhal district. Authorities say the additional land will be developed as part of a larger industrial ecosystem planned along the expressway corridor. In the first phase, approximately 240 hectares of land were acquired from villages such as Khirni Muhiuddinpur, Basla, Amavati Kutubpur and Sarangpur, where development work is already nearing completion. Officials said nearly 95% of the infrastructure work in this phase has been completed, paving the way for the next stage of expansion.

The corridor is part of a broader strategy by the Uttar Pradesh government to create industrial clusters along major expressways in the state. The aim is to improve logistics connectivity and encourage industries such as manufacturing, logistics, food processing and small-scale enterprises to set up operations along these high-speed transport corridors. The Ganga Expressway, currently under construction, is expected to be one of India’s longest access-controlled highways, stretching roughly 594 kilometres from Meerut to Prayagraj and passing through multiple districts including Sambhal, Badaun, Hardoi and Unnao.

By integrating industrial zones with the expressway network, the state government hopes to create a logistics and manufacturing belt across central and western Uttar Pradesh. Industrial corridors developed along major highways typically provide essential infrastructure such as internal roads, power supply, water facilities and logistics support for businesses. Authorities believe the expansion of the Sambhal corridor could attract significant private investment and generate employment opportunities for local residents.

Experts note that expressway-linked industrial development can reduce transportation costs, improve supply chains and encourage companies to establish production facilities closer to transport routes. The Sambhal project is one of several industrial zones planned along the Ganga Expressway and other expressways in Uttar Pradesh. Similar industrial clusters are being developed in districts such as Bulandshahr, Amroha, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi and Unnao, creating a network of manufacturing hubs connected by high-speed roads.

If implemented successfully, the expansion of the industrial corridor in Sambhal could play a key role in boosting regional economic growth while strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s ambition to become a major manufacturing and logistics hub in northern India.
