Mahindra Last Mile Mobility (MLMML), a subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra, has partnered with Bengaluru-based electric vehicle (EV) start-up Vidyut to introduce a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model for electric three- and four-wheelers. This innovative model is aimed at reducing the upfront costs of EV ownership by up to 40%, making sustainable mobility more accessible and affordable for customers.
The BaaS program allows customers to rent batteries for as low as ₹2.50 per kilometre. This significantly lowers the initial cost of Mahindra’s electric vehicles, including the Mahindra ZEO (4W), Zor Grand (3W cargo), and Treo Plus (3W passenger). Customers can either purchase the battery outright or continue with the rental plan after the financing term. Additionally, they can opt out of the program anytime by settling the remaining battery value.
Suman Mishra, Managing Director & CEO of MLMML, remarked, “By introducing the Battery-as-a-Service option through Vidyut, we are demonstrating our dedication to making electric mobility more accessible. This partnership will undoubtedly contribute to the increased adoption of EVs.” Vidyut, a start-up focused on making EV ownership more accessible, employs advanced asset-underwriting algorithms and battery health data analysis to offer affordable financing. Co-founder Xitij Kothi expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying, “We aim to make sustainable mobility both affordable and accessible by extending our innovation to 4W and 3W passenger and cargo vehicles.”
