21-Day Quarantine Imposed for Suspected Mpox

In light of the global mpox (monkeypox) outbreak, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has initiated enhanced health surveillance protocols, including the deployment of thermal scanners for all international passengers. This proactive measure, orchestrated by the Airport Health Organisation (APHO), underscores the airport’s commitment to safeguarding the health of both travellers and staff amidst rising concerns over the spread of the virus.

As passengers arrive at KIA, they will undergo thorough thermal screenings. Individuals displaying symptoms associated with mpox, such as elevated body temperatures, will be isolated and subjected to testing in accordance with established government protocols. In the event of a positive result, the APHO will swiftly facilitate the transfer of the affected individual to a designated medical facility for appropriate treatment.

A spokesperson for Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the airport’s operating body, affirmed that KIA is well-equipped to manage health-related challenges arising from the mpox situation. “All international passengers arriving at the airport are being meticulously screened for elevated temperatures. An isolation zone has been designated for the efficient management of suspected cases. Our medical teams, in collaboration with health authorities, are prepared to handle any eventuality,” the spokesperson stated. In a precautionary measure, the BIAL has mandated a 21-day quarantine for passengers who exhibit symptoms consistent with mpox. This measure reflects the seriousness with which the airport is treating the potential threat of the virus, aiming to mitigate any risk of community transmission.

The establishment of these protocols comes during a time of heightened public concern over infectious diseases. With the global landscape increasingly vigilant against such health threats, Bengaluru’s response illustrates a broader commitment to public health safety. By implementing rigorous screening and immediate isolation for suspected cases, the airport seeks to ensure that safety remains paramount. As the world grapples with the ongoing implications of infectious diseases, it is crucial that transport hubs like KIA remain vigilant. This proactive approach not only prioritises passenger safety but also contributes to the broader sustainability of public health measures. By investing in these health protocols, Bengaluru is taking significant steps to protect its citizens and maintain the integrity of its transportation systems during uncertain times.
